Meet our 2025 Quilt Judges
Black Canyon Quilt Show, Inc. would like to announce the two judges that will judge quilts entered into the 2024 Black Canyon Quilt Show to be held July 11-13, 2024 at the Montrose Pavilion in Montrose, Colorado.
Meet and Greet July 9th, 2025
The Judges will also be available for a meet and greet on Wednesday evening, July 9th, along with announcing the winner of the 2025 Black Canyon Quilt Show’s Best of Show ribbon and their selections for winners of the Judge’s Choice ribbons. SHERRY MASSEY
Sherry Massey began quilting in 1980. Countless quilts later, she is honored to have been Oklahoma’s first NACQJ Certified Judge. She is a member of the Edmond Quilt Guild and has served as the Edmond Quilt Festival chairman and most recently as judging coordinator, a job that is both educational and rewarding. She’s had quilts juried into the Paducah Fall show and the Houston International Quilt Show. She is also a proud member of a small group that makes quilts for Boys’ Ranch Town, a working ranch that provides a home for boys separated from their families.
As a certified quilt judge, Sherry’s aim for each show is to utilize her experience and training to provide objective, encouraging, and constructive critiques of all quilts submitted. One of her primary goals is to recognize creativity and skill and offer unbiased advice on future design choices where applicable. She participates in judging with passion and enthusiasm and herp hilosophy is to uphold NACQJ standards and ethics, continue her personal and professional education, and participate in positive advancement of our craft.
Cindy Erickson
Cindy started her career as an interior designer in Arizona and Utah, then specialized in creating applique wallhangings and clothing for boutiques. Since being introduced to the rotary cutter and half-square triangle she’s been unstoppable. Cindy makes commission quilts and samples for various international companies and individuals (including RJR and P&B). She is an NQA certified Quilt Judge and teaches quilting and clothing specialty classes at Bernina Sewing Center in Omaha as well as lecturing and classes around the country. She is qualified to judge Master Quilts, Modern and art quilts of all techniques. She has judged many major shows including Quilt Con, Paducah and for many more regional and guild shows. She specializes in teaching rotary and sewing machine skills in all aspects of quiltmaking to all skill levels. “Professional Quilter Magazine” nominated her for National Teacher of the Year. She has been published in Quiltmaker, Fons and Porters magazine and Leisure Arts publications, collaborating with many designers, Cindy’s quilts have been shown in AQS, Houston, PIQS and NQA. @quiltstsh (Instagram)
